5 app recommendations in February 2023

It's that time again! As in previous months and years, this article contains five new app recommendations for the Apple Mac. For February 2023 I have selected macOS programs for you in the areas of remote control, system customization, speech-to-text transcripts, interior design and web downloads. 1. SiriMote

As of macOS 10.12, the SiriMote app offers you the option of using the remote control on your Apple TV to control the Mac. Not all possible system and app functions can be assigned to the buttons of the Bluetooth device, but at least those of the F-keys, which are intended for media control, can be assigned natively. Accordingly, the volume can be adjusted during music playback, the previous or next track can be controlled and so on. Furthermore, you can use the Apple TV remote control with this app for Keynote-Presentations, use for ProPresenter, PowerPoint, Kodi and more. 2. Spaced

The Spaced App is once again a little helper for the menu bar under macOS on your Apple Mac. There are several apps designed to help keep them organized and clutter-free. With Spaced you can use different separator objects that can be placed between the individual symbols in the menu bar. In addition to a space, various dashes and a dot can also be selected. You can use the app from macOS 13 and obtain it both from the App Store (contains updates) and download it from the developer's website (contains no updates). 3. Whisper Transcription

The 4,5GB Whisper Transcription app is designed to convert speech to text. The software for macOS creates transcripts, regardless of whether it is a dictation from management, a recording of a university lecture, a creative 3 a.m.voice memo or similar. The AI ​​speech recognition "Whisper" is used, which explains the name of the program. This AI comes from the same house as the text AI ChatGPT. She was trained with over 650.000 hours of voice recordings. To make the transcript easier to read, Whisper Transcription splits the audio recording into 30-second chunks and then outputs piece-by-piece copyable text. There is a free version and a paid pro version. At least macOS 12 is required.

4. Sweet Home 3D

The Sweet Home 3D App is a software that can be used extensively and in many areas, which enables the creation of 3D models of rooms and houses. In addition to the precise placement of walls, doors and windows, the interior design can also be realized digitally from macOS 10.9. A wide variety of furniture, objects and decorative items can be selected and adjusted. In addition to the dimensions on the X, Y and Z axes, the color and texture can be changed for each. From your own apartment planning to the creation of an exposé for the rental, a lot is possible. In addition to the paid download in the App Store, you can also find official free sources online including additional texture packs, the source code of the app and more.

5. Folks

The Folx app helps to manage downloads from the internet. Various sources are accepted for this, both direct downloads from individual sources and torrents. Downloads can also be split across multiple streams via Folx to speed up downloading. For those who need such features, the torrent search feature and magnet link support will surely come in handy as well. If the same websites are used again and again for downloads, the respective login data can be stored directly in the app. So you don't have to log in again and again to download content.
