Chapter in this post:
The results of a vacuum cleaner robot test series were published in the current test magazine of Stiftung Warentest. As part of this, the best vacuum robots were selected and graded in various categories such as cleaning, navigation and handling. The top grade in first place is 1. A device with an overall grade of 2,4 came in 8th place. In the following I have summarized which of the vacuum cleaner robots are good or very good in which way.
You can find the vacuum cleaner robot test winners from Stiftung Warentest from the test magazine 03/2019 here. Which is your favorite vacuum robot?
The best performed in pretty much all areas when comparing eight devices Vorwerk Kobold VR300. With an overall grade of good (2,4), it was granted good cleaning behavior on hard floors and carpets. You can be satisfied with the navigation and the handling was "only" rated with 2,7 - but no other device tested was better either. The disadvantage: it is the most expensive device in the test series.
With an overall grade of 2,5, the AEG RX9-1-IBM Let robot vacuum cleaners see. In terms of cleaning, it is slightly behind first place, but it is still good. Navigation and handling are also rated similarly. What was not included in the evaluation was the possibility of delimiting the room. Positive for use in different places: The AEG vacuum cleaner weighs only around 2,7 kg while the Vorwerk vacuum robot weighs around 4,2 kg.
With the third-placed automatic vacuum cleaner, we are already entering the ranks of "satisfactory" cleaning aids. Because the overall grade of the Samsung VR2GM7070WS / EG is 2,7. Since this is already reflected in the cleaning performance (there is no side brush on the device), the purchase should be carefully considered - especially if you plan to use it on carpeted floors. In the case of hard floors, despite the lack of a side brush, the picking up of fibers was rated as good and the cleaning of corners and edges was rated very good. The navigation can keep up with its predecessors.
Other well-known and in some cases quite price-intensive models have appeared in places 4 to 8. It can be said of all of them that the lower the rank, the cleaning was rated worse and worse by the Stiftung Warentest. For the sake of completeness, here are the individual vacuum robots:
Spring cleaning: The best mattress and mite vacuums
In the test magazine 03/2019 of the Stiftung Warentest there is not only the briefly summarized above comparison of tested vacuum cleaner robots. Their suction power on carpets (mineral dust on short carpets) and on hard floors (dust, fibers and coarse) is also compared with the performance of cylinder vacuum cleaners for manual use and also with hand-held battery vacuum cleaners:
This is how it was tested: Methodology explained by the tester
It would have been interesting to see how vacuum cleaner robots from Xiaomi or Roborock compared to the above. Probably not bad. Because in my own test, I found the first and second generation of the big-name vacuum cleaner robots from China to be pretty good - sometimes very good. I have linked the test reports (as well as a cordless vacuum cleaner test) below:
