Chapter in this post:
It is again or still time for the home office. And meetings there can be particularly stressful. If you don't have a large desk to organize yourself on, or if the improvised workstation in the kitchen is lacking the note options, then Anker wants to provide you with a solution with the new PowerConf products. The Bluetooth headsets H500 and H700 should not only shine with good audio output and a good microphone, but also with recording and transcription functions. The AnkerWork app for the computer is available for this. However, the automatic transcription of language is currently only possible in English.
Basically, the two models are the same headset. In contrast to the cheaper Anker PowerConf H700, the slightly more expensive Anker PowerConf H500 has active noise suppression (ANC). This helps to concentrate on participating in the online meeting even when there are noises in the apartment or in the office. If there is a construction site next to your home office, if you also look after the kids or if there are other acoustic distractions, then the H700 could be more practical than the H500.
But what can the two new headsets from Anker actually do? They can help you wirelessly and with up to 24 hours of running time to take part in online meetings or to make phone calls without a single microphone and headphones. A separate Bluetooth dongle is included in the scope of delivery for the connection to the computer. There is also a charging station, a charging cable with power supply and a travel case. If it has to go quickly, the quick charge function can be used to get almost 5 hours of running time in just 3 minutes.
Thanks to the AnkerWork software for macOS (from macOS 10.14 Mojave) and Windows (from Windows 7) conversations and meetings can also be recorded. If they are in English, the app can also be used to automatically transcribe so that what has been discussed is available in text form. Whether and when other languages will be supported in the future is still pending (as of November 11, 2021). The Anker PowerConf H500 with charging station costs 139,99 euros; the H700 version with charging station costs 169,99 euros.
Of course, hardware and software would be too good to be true for the price shown. After registering in the software, the included minutes for transcription are only available for two months - with the H500 it is 600 minutes, with the H700 it is 1.000 minutes. After that or after the two months have elapsed, a fee is charged for using the function.
The firmware of the headset and the Bluetooth dongle is also updated via the AnkerWork app. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether you have to register for it so that the free period for transcriptions runs from the first use / update. The recording function for recording what has been said in audio form does not seem to be subject to a subscription requirement. Basically, the function is easy to replace with other (and free) software.
Another note: To protect your personal rights, you should always ask whether you are allowed to record the phone call before a meeting and especially before one-on-one discussions (whether professional or private). Recording for purely private purposes (to listen to information in a long conversation) may still be okay as a gray area. As soon as this information affects the work or leaves your sphere of activity and reaches others, this can have legal consequences without the consent of the persons involved.
