Any Text App: Display any text on iPhone lock screen

thanks to the Lock screen widgets from iOS 16 you can display a wide variety of content and information on the iPhone display without having to unlock it. What is better than a hint about the owner of the device? Because if you lose your iPhone or leave it somewhere, the finder can contact you better if your name and e-mail address are directly visible. This can also be implemented on the Mac with on-board resources in a similar way: Set lock screen / login window message on Mac. The iPhone requires a third-partyApp, but this is free. her name is Any Text Lock Screen Widgets.

In case of emergency: Lost iPhone? lyrics about “Where is?” bring to the lock screen afterwards!

Use Any Text Widget: Custom text on iPhone lock screen

Of course, to take advantage of the offer, you must first have Any Text download from the App Store. The link will take you there directly. Is the app on your iPhone with iOS 16 or newer installed, you will find instructions for use when opening it for the first time. It reads (translated) as follows:

  1. Swipe down from the top-left corner of the display to bring up the lock screen
  2. Tap and hold your finger on the clock
  3. Tap Customize
  4. Select "Lock Screen".
  5. Tap the widget area above or below the clock
  6. Locate "Any Text" and add it
  7. Go back to the app, write a text, close the app and the text will appear on the lock screen
The first time you open the Any Text Lock Screen Widget app, you'll get instructions. You can use these to quickly and easily place an individual text on the iPhone lock screen.

So according to the instructions you call up the lock screen and edit it. Place the Any Text Widget and enter a text for it in the app. Eight different slots can be used. These eight slots can be individually added to the lock screen by editing it again. This allows you to switch between different texts without having to delete and re-enter them over and over again.

Whenever possible, I test an app before recommending it to you. As for Any Text, I'm glad I tested it because it showed that it's a very useful tool.

If no text appears in the place of the added widget after the first try, then you have selected the wrong number and provided it with a text. I solved the problem by trying different slots and seeing which one ends up on the lock screen. After that I was able to customize it.

You can use a wide variety of texts to be prepared for anything.

Use cases for custom text on iPhone lock screen

In my opinion, there are a wide variety of ways to use this app and the options it offers. Here is a small list of ideas that you are welcome to leave a comment on:

  • Mention your name and e-mail address in case you lose the device / forget it somewhere and hope that the finders will contact you
  • Give your name and address if you hope that the person who finds the smartphone will send it to you or bring it by
  • Use as a shopping list so you don't have to unlock your iPhone in the store, e.g. B. to look in the Notes app
  • Write down the most important task of the day so that it can be seen again and again and not forgotten
  • Note other content, appointments, important things or the like so that they are visible quickly and without unlocking the device

By the way: The app comes from the developer sindre sorhus, whose practical and free offers for Mac and iPhone we have presented here in the blog several times. Well thought-out apps are always being added :)

    1. Good question! Maybe it's because it looks different on different iOS versions? But that's how I get to the widgets. However, I still had to tap “Lock Screen” after “Customize”. I just added that to the application.

      1. I have IOS 16.2 (20C65) on an iPhone 13 Pro Max. And when I customize it, I only get 'Cancel' or 'Add new' and then I can only select a new background image. Nothing else, unfortunately.

Unless I make a new lockscreen and the old one is gone. But that is more important to me than the text
