The notch: not discussed, but there!

We have known the notch, i.e. the camera indentation into the display, since the iPhone X from 2017. iPhones equipped with Face ID have had a notch since this model. The new models of the Apple MacBook Pro do not offer Face ID, but rather narrower bezels. Since these are only 3,5 mm thin on the top, left and right, a notch had to be created for the camera and the ambient light sensor.

This notch, which protrudes into the menu bar of macOS, was shown during yesterday's presentation, but not discussed. It can often not be seen at first glance on current product photos because the selected display images are dark at the top. So you have to look carefully to get a complete picture of the new design. Here is a picture showing the camera notch of the new Apple laptops:

Although the new 1080p FaceTime camera was shown, the notch in which it is embedded was not discussed. It was shown with the darkest possible environment. A trick that we already know from the iPhone.

Apple MacBook Pro 16 ″ (2021) prices

"What will the new Apple MacBook Pro 16 ″ (2021) cost?“You might ask yourselves. Well, that depends on the configuration as always. In addition to the main memory and the hard disk space, this time there is also a selection from several SoC models. With the different equipment of the M1 Pro and M1 Max there are some combinations, starting with a basic price of 2.749 euros (10-core CPU, 16-core GPU) or 3.619 euros (10-core CPU, 32-core GPU).

Presenting the price for the new 16,2 inch MacBook Pro from Apple in a table is not that easy this time. Otherwise it always works with a matrix of RAM and SSD storage. Now, however, the selection of the M1 chips must also be included as a third factor. I have therefore decided to create several tables. These have a certain chip as their basic value (see respective heading) and show the RAM and SSD options available for it.

Other optional costs when purchasing a MacBook Pro

With the MacBook Pro with 14-inch display, there is still the choice between a 67W power supply and a 96W power supply for some configurations. This is not the case with the 16-inch model of the new MacBook Pro, as a 140W power supply is included with all configurations. However, what you can still select on the product page of the new large laptop are the Apple apps Final Cut Pro (299,99 euros) and Logic Pro (199,99 euros).

If you get the most powerful configuration of the new 16-inch MacBook Pro as well as the Apple apps for video editing and music creation, you can expect a total invoice amount of 7.338,98 euros. The difference to the cheapest model without software is 4.589,98 euros. You can now organize your own number games on the Apple website.

When will the MacBook Pro 16 ″ be available?

The new MacBook Pro models were introduced yesterday, October 18, 2021. Since then, you can order them from Apple. They should be available in stores from next Tuesday, October 26, 2021. But if you look at Apple's online shop at the moment, delivery times from November 11th to November 19th, 2021 are already specified there. So, even if you are fast, you shouldn't expect a delivery this month. If you pre-order, please keep us up to date on how the delivery status is developing over time. I wish you success! :)

    1. so when os x monterey comes out on 25.10, they will definitely want to install it on the macbooks beforehand; this may be the reason for the delay in delivery, because in the past you could hold the new device in your hands a week or two after the apple event... 🤔

      1. Yes, that could be ... But you have to have a lot of people installing all of this. Perhaps you shouldn't have the new MacBook Pro in productive use for the time being ... until the teething troubles of Monterey are ironed out. 😂
