The US colleagues from MacRumors carried out an Apple MagSafe wallet test. You have the new leather accessory for iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro tried and draw a rather sobering conclusion. The test video alone, which I have included for you at the end of this article, begins with the description “It's Kind of a Mess”. Above all, it is negatively stated that the holder for two or three credit cards, ID card and / or driver's license almost always falls off when the Apple smartphone is put in your pocket or when you take it out.
Chapter in this post:
iPhone leather wallet with MagSafe in the test: Quite a botch
What one can gain positively from the "wallet" offered by Apple is that the magnets used should not damage magnetic cards (credit cards, EC cards, key cards, etc.) - more information here. But that was about it. Because not only is the animal material leather used for the seemingly unnecessary accessory (which is completely superfluous), but according to the MacRumors test report it is not nearly as practical as advertised by Apple.
On the one hand, only up to three cards fit in. If you regularly squeeze a fourth one, you not only run the risk of scratching the cards, but also of the wallet becoming worn out and the cards falling out over time. On the other hand, the magnetic connection only holds really well when the iPhone is shaken. If there is a mechanical impact - multiple poking or plugging of the iPhone and wallet into the pocket - the accessories fall off.
Overview: Wallets with NFC read protection
In addition, charging the iPhone battery via Qi or MagSafe with the wallet on the back of the smartphone is impossible. So it has to be removed for this. The opening, which is used to push a card out with the thumb, is also on the side facing the iPhone. To use a credit or debit card, the wallet has to be removed so that you tend to have both hands full - with iPhone and wallet. So you almost have to juggle to be able to pay at all.
The biggest drawback is - not only, but especially for frequent users - that the leather wallet tends to fall off when you put the iPhone 12 in your pocket (see video). So it is important to always actively remember that both must end up in your trouser pocket, jacket pocket or the like. Otherwise you have lost the accessory for currently 63,35 euros as well as the cards and documents (ID, driver's license, BahnCard, etc.) inside it faster than you can think of it. Or in short: the expensive accessories are not suitable for everyday use. Click here for the MacRumors article.

I can’t understand! Total nonsense has only occurred to me once a day when I bought it, but it also provoked it because I wanted to test it. Most people also use their hand to make sure that the iPhone lands in their pocket and that's that.
Or as Steve Jobs would say: “Just avoid holding it in that way"...

Got it on the iPhone 12 mini and it holds a bomb. But I also built the leather case from Apple on it. Because the wallet closes perfectly with the Mini, there is no such leverage here as with the larger models. Absolutely great for the mini!
