Apple Watch Series 5 - Current Rumors and Leaks

With the annual Apple Special Event in September, the Apple Watch Series 5 is also expected this year. In addition to new iPhone and maybe iPad models, which will be presented at a keynote, the smartwatch could become a hit again. Because current rumors and hints from Apple-related sources point to new functions and a more powerful processor. Whether the battery life of the Apple Watch 5 will be set at more than 18 hours is entirely possible. Why? You can find out here!

Current Apple Watch Series 5 rumors and leaks from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other sources: EKG, sleep monitoring, ceramic case, S5 chip and more.

Current Apple Watch Series 5 rumors

The Apple Watch Series 5, which could be presented in September 2019, should bring new specs and features, according to experts such as Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other sources. Among other things, this affects the ECG function, but also the structure of the device itself. A more powerful processor inside and a new ceramic case can be expected. It cannot be assumed that there will be a new case size this year after the 2018 update. The following are the points that could set the Apple Watch Series 5 apart from its predecessors in 2019.

ECG function in other countries

The biggest disappointment with the Apple Watch Series 4 was that the EKG function only worked / works in the USA. Here in Germany, for example, we do not enjoy the feature that is already being celebrated as a lifesaver in many headlines and reports. With the Apple Watch 5, it is expected that the ability to create an EKG directly with the smartwatch will also be certified in Germany and other countries.

New chip - Apple S5 in Apple Watch Series 5

Much information or even technical data on the expected S5 chip as the new processor in the Apple Watch 2019 has not yet been released. However, one can assume that there will be a revised, more powerful processor or SoC if / if the Apple Watch Series 5 is presented at the September keynote this year. Whether there will be new compatibilities with / further removal of iPhone, iPad and Co. remains to be speculated.

Ceramic case, but same size

As I told you in the post about the Apple Watch Series 4 specifications showed, there have been two revised case and display sizes for the smart watch from Cupertino since last year: 40 mm and 44 mm. These have replaced the previous sizes of 38 mm and 42 mm. It seems certain that there will be no further change in this area with the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019. However, the case of all editions should be made entirely of ceramic.

Sleep monitoring and sleep phase measurement

Another feature that could (and should) be implemented in the new hardware and the watchOS operating system in 2019 is sleep monitoring. Many wearables, smartwatch models, fitness trackers and Android accessories have had this available for years. If you don't know it: sleep monitoring is used to record sleep phases (light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, etc.) as well as wake phases during the night.

Huawei uses the Honor band and the associated Huawei Health app okay - there are also scientific tips for improving the quality of sleep. And the device is compatible with Apple's HealthKit. From the Apple Watch Series 5, I expect similar or better functionality for sleep and sleep phase monitoring. For example, the iPhone could be saved as a Sleep.Phase.Alarm.Clock to be set up.

Longer battery life on Apple Watch Series 5

With the Apple Watch Series 5 and the rumors that have existed so far, a longer battery life of the smartwatch is actually inevitable. Because if you work as a companion and health tracker during the day, but also monitor your sleep at night, then you need a lot of energy. “In the long run, only power helps,” as the saying goes. So either the battery has to be from currently a few hundred mAh grow to significantly more - or a super-fast fast charging function must be established ...

Apple Watch Series 5 Release - 2019 or 2020?

As I said: So far, these are all Apple Watch rumors here, da and there can be found on the internet. Nothing is certain at the moment. If in doubt, we will Apple Keynote will not see a new smartwatch in September 2019, but will only get a new apple watch in 2020 with the surprises mentioned and / or maybe completely different ones. What do you think? Feel free to leave your opinion, your expectations and of course your wishes regarding the new watchOS device in the comments ;)
