DailyArt - Curated art app with lots of information (Pick of KW36)

If you are interested in art and art history, you might want to live out this interest on the Apple iPhone or an Android smartphone. This can be done with various apps and bring artists and their works of art onto the mobile display. Out of personal interest, I looked around the large selection of art apps and was there DailyArt filtered out as the most suitable for me. I have summarized why this is the case and why I do not believe in WikiArt in this article. Because the DailyArt app for iOS and Android is mine Pick of the week for calendar week 36 in 2021.

DailyArt - artists, works, background information and curated material

In addition to the smartphone, DailyArt also offers a “daily dose of art history” on the tablet, for example on the Apple iPad with iPadOS. Because every day a different work of art and thus the artist behind it is highlighted. There is also background information on the person and work as well as information on the location, exhibitions and more. The works shown can be marked as favorites and sent to others via the share menu. 

But that's not all: Of course, you can't just look at a single work of art per day. The app offers a search function as well as an overview that can be filtered into the categories "Works of Art", "Artists", "Museums" and "Favorites". In the artist overview, the people noted in the app are listed alphabetically. The same goes for museums. If you want to jump to specific images or information quickly, simply use the search field to enter the relevant information.

If you tap on one of the names, a portrait or photo of the person appears - if available - and a text with the most important information underneath. The texts do not have the length of Wikipedia articles, but are rather two or three paragraphs long. So it's good to read the most important things in between. The profiles of the museums also provide a picture and a brief description of the facility. Most of the texts are already available in German; if there is no translation yet, there are at least English paragraphs.

DailyArt download and price of the PRO version

The DailyArt app for Apple devices has an average rating of 4,8 stars. You can View and download it in the App Store. If you don't want to see advertising or use the favorites and archive functions, you can buy the PRO version for a one-time fee of 5,99 euros. It's worth it! If you want to use it on an Android device, just have a look at the Google Play Store. There is also an average rating of 4,8 out of 5 stars. What do you think of DailyArt? Topic WikiArt - Why I don't like this app at all

As mentioned at the beginning, I checked out a few art and art history apps for the iPhone. Of course, I came across WikiArt - like probably everyone who is looking for such apps. Here, too, you can find a wide variety of art by a wide variety of artists. But there are a few problems. For example, there is no background information on the works of art. 

The people who created them also only have dates of birth and death in addition to a picture. In my opinion, that's just not enough if you really want to find out more about the topic. In addition, people like Adolf Hitler are listed in the app. I don't think that this has to be the case just because he drew a few pictures ... That's why I prefer to recommend DailyArt. What would you like to recommend instead of WikiArt?
