DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – Handy camera for professional recordings

With the Osmo Pocket 3, DJI has released a useful update to the range of high-quality one-hand cameras. The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 not only has the hardware, but also the software features that enable high-quality recordings at up to 4K resolution and 120 fps.

From hand-held and gimbal-stabilized film recordings to automatically keeping people in the frame while using a tripod to many other recordings, everything is possible - this time even in portrait mode for portrait format videos. The “Creative Combo” completes the professional film experience.

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – The most important data of the camera

The new Osmo Pocket 3 camera from DJI comes with a 1-inch camera sensor, while its predecessor only had a 1/1,7-inch sensor. The new model features a 20 mm lens with f/2.0 aperture as well as full-pixel quick focus, which promises to focus on the main object of the composition even when moving quickly in space. ActiveTrack 6.0 is also used for object tracking (the previous version was version 3.0). This means, among other things, the use of the latest facial recognition and dynamic image sections.

But progress has also been made in other areas with the new Osmo Pocket model. You can now see what you are currently recording and what exactly the image section looks like on a rotating 2-inch display. In addition to horizontal recordings, vertical recordings are now also supported. To do this, simply rotate the screen from landscape to portrait format. It is not necessary to rotate the camera by 90°.

The battery life has also been increased to up to 166 minutes; 80% battery is recharged after just 16 minutes. A battery grip for additional running time is supported.

Professional color range and shooting modes

The camera adjusts exposure for different skin tones to achieve a clear and radiant complexion in every image. For more professional shooting, the Osmo Pocket 3 offers 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG color modes that can capture landscapes in remarkable detail and present precise colors and vivid highlights.

...says the official press release for the new camera.

10-bit D-Log M can distinguish up to a billion colors and capture rich detail in every shot, while 10-bit HLG-HDR recording offers higher dynamic range to achieve stunning images on HDR-capable devices.

As always: 3-axis gimbal ensures smooth recordings

In addition to the handiness and the most modern recording technology, the high-quality image stabilization of DJI's Osmo products also provides strong purchasing arguments. This new camera once again uses a 3-axis gimbal that compensates for various movements and thus enables a jerky and shake-free video. This also makes smooth camera movements possible, which can be achieved without professional accessories but simply by arm or body movements.

Not just video, but also audio

Regardless of whether it's a holiday video, everyday recording, film about a weekend trip, concert video, vlog, cooking or baking recording, short film or other modern moving image product - none of it is of any use without good audio. And that's why the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 offers omnidirectional stereo recording directly on the device.

For recordings from a greater distance, the DJI Mic 2 transmitter can also be used, which is coupled directly to the camera as a wireless microphone. Instead of buying the microphone individually, you can also use it as part of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creative Combo (see below). Up to two microphones of this type can be connected to one camera.

Standard scope of delivery of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3

Here you can already use the 1-inch sensor, the 10-bit color depth, the stereo audio recording, the portrait and landscape format and all other standard advantages. The following elements are included in the package:

  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 protective case

Why we recommend the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creative Combo

With the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 we have the same reason that we have been recommending the “Creative Combos” of various DJI products for years. Regardless of whether it's a drone, cell phone gimbal or compact one-hand camera - the larger packages always contain practical accessories that are useful for using the devices. In addition to the standard equipment shown above, the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creative Combo also brings you these accessories:

  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 wide angle lens
  • DJI Mic 2 transmitter (radio clip-on microphone)
  • DJI Mic 2 windscreen
  • DJI Mic 2 clip magnet
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 battery grip
  • Osmo mini tripod
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 carrying case

In addition to the audio equipment, you also get a lens attachment for wide-angle shots, additional battery life, a tripod for placing the camera upright and a transport bag for safe transport when traveling. This creative package is cheaper than purchasing the standard equipment and the respective accessories individually as additional individual products in the shopping cart. So you should choose the “Creative Combo” when ordering the new DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Otherwise you will pay extra when you expand the set later.

The prices for the two equipments

  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (standard): 539 euros
  • DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creative Combo: 679 euros
