Dragonbite Stylus: The pen cap with stylus functionality

Morpheus Labs Dragonbite jar

Today an interesting particle came to me. When I opened the package, all I knew was that it was a stylus. However, a BIC pen and a small jar came to light. This compilation initially raised a few question marks in my head, but these quickly cleared up after I unscrewed the can, because it was in it that the actual product emerged: The Dragonbite Stylus from [Morpheus Labs-> morpheus-labs]. This manufacturer will probably still be familiar to one or the other reader, because I recently tested the Alpha Stylus from Morpheus Labs - see here.

Interesting combination: pen and stylus for the Apple iPad

But now to the Dragonbite Stylus. Strictly speaking, this device is not actually a pen, but just a touchscreen-compatible protective cap for the widely used “BIC® Cristal®” pen – according to Wikipedia the best-selling ballpoint pen in the world.

So that I could test the stylus right away, the BIC pen was added to it. So I removed the pen cap from the BIC and put on the Dragonbite instead. The extended protective cap makes it more ergonomic in the following use, you only grip the Dragonbite cap and no longer the barrel of the pen. A corresponding design of the cap even supports this project - it seems to be intended that way. :)

The target group of the Dragonbite: Occasional stylus users with a pen sympathy

The pen lies comfortably in the hand, but of course it doesn't have the feel of the Alpha, which is made of aluminum and feels much more valuable. But I think that both stylus solutions address different target groups. While the Alpha is more intended for pro users, the Dragonbite is aimed at occasional users who always have a pen with them and occasionally need a stylus as an input device on the iPad or iPhone.

Dragonbite test
With the “Paper” app I tried out the Dragonbite stylus cap on the iPad and created this little work of art (cough, cough).

The tip of the Dragonbite is about 5mm in diameter and still quite precise. With a bit of practice, lines can also be attached to one end again, and cursive writing is also easy to do after a short period of getting used to it. Of course, the pen is not pressure-sensitive, even though my test with the paperApp which can be expected due to the varying line thickness. However, this is a result of the app, which “refurbishes” the lines visually and skilfully imitates the effect of a drawing pen.

For a good contact on the touchscreen, the tip is also a bit ball-bearing, so that it always rests well on the screen, (almost) no matter what angle you hold the pen.

Prices and availability of the Dragonbite stylus cap

The price of the Dragonbite is great currently at Amazon at 17,90 EUR, which seems a bit “high” for the pen cap, but those who like to use the stylus function and usually have a BIC pen with them will certainly be able to get over the expense.

The Customer ratings on Amazon consistently show positive feedback from users. It is particularly emphasized that it is very cheap and practical due to the combination with a simple pen. I can only agree with this judgment. :-)
