Some of you are probably already familiar with the device, but even if only three people do not know it, your life will now change! Why? Because mosquito bites are no longer a problem in the future.
I was only allowed to try the bite away stitch healer again yesterday when a mosquito stung my heel from the side while sleeping. A really nasty place because you can't really scratch yourself there - probably too little bacon or something. Anyway, I woke up from the itch and couldn't go back to sleep because it kept getting worse instead of better.
After a good 30 minutes I finally got the idea that we have something against itchy insect bites in the house: the bite away stitch healer, which works electronically or thermally against insect bites. So run into the bathroom, start bite away and put an end to the itchy sting.

Use of the bite away stab healer
The application is explained quickly in principle. You take the bite away pen, place the ceramic plate, which is attached to the front, on the insect bite and then press one of the two green buttons on the top.
The small plate in front will then heat you up and a green LED indicates that it has now reached the target temperature of 51 ° C. Under no circumstances should you pull the pen away because it hurts a little. This is normal and should be one. After 3 seconds or 6 seconds, the device beeps and switches off again. Only now should you lift the bite away stitch healer from the skin. The "treatment" is now complete.
51 degrees Celsius doesn't sound like much, but it hurts a little and feels like burning when you experience it for the first time. For this reason, we affectionately call the bite away stick “the Fritzler”. :D
Why are there two buttons on the bite away stitch healer?
The left button holds the temperature of 51 ° C for 3 seconds, while the other (right) button holds the temperature for 6 seconds. According to the instructions, the shorter period is intended for children, as they may be more sensitive to pain and have more sensitive skin.
In principle, the left button with the 3 seconds is also sufficient for adults. If the itching doesn't stop after a few minutes, you can still try the 6 seconds.
In short, I would say it like this:
- left button: 3 seconds for children and particularly sensitive skin areas
- right button: 6 seconds, for insensitive adults and people who like to play it safe or for less sensitive skin areas
Only 5 times a day - per stitch
There is another limitation of the manufacturer, which I would like to briefly mention: If you have to treat an area several times because the itching does not go away that quickly, you should take a break of two minutes between the individual applications.
In addition, the manufacturer recommends that you do not treat an area more than five times a day. As a rule, you don't need that by a long way. Most stings stop itching after the first treatment.
How does the bite away stick work against mosquito bites?
The principle behind the bite away is the following (according to the manufacturer):
On the one hand, warmth is basically good for supporting immune reactions in the body. Among other things, the warming of the skin also releases histamine and some degradation enzymes, which ensure that the insecticide is absorbed more quickly.
On the other hand, the warming of the skin area to 51 ° C ensures that the proteins in the skin, which are responsible for the itching, are destroyed.
Why the temperature of 51 ° Celsius?
If I understand correctly, the temperature of 51 ° C is no coincidence, but rather hot enough to destroy the proteins in the insecticide, but not yet so hot that you would get a burn.
Indeed, at the beginning you have doubts whether you will have a burn blister on your skin at the same time as the sting, but in all the years that we have been using the insect sting healer from bite away, there has not been a single burn. Not even a reddening of the skin that would have lasted for several minutes.
The technical data of the bite away heat stick
The technical specifications are not super exciting, but still maybe interesting for one or the other, so I'll briefly list them here:
- Manufacturer: bite away
- Length: approx. 17 cm
- Weight: approx. 110 g
- Batteries: 2x AA (included)
- Batteries are sufficient for approx. 300 applications (3s stage)
- Heat development: 51 ° C
- Time intervals: 3s and 6s
- Price: approx. 25 EUR (at Amazon)
- Cover for the pen by Wicked Chilli for about 12 EUR
Which insect bites does the bite away stick help against?
Of course you can use the stick from bite away for more than just mosquito bites. The principle of using heat to render the poison's proteins harmless works with many insect bites. Here is a list of the stitches that can be treated with the bite away stick:
- Mosquito bites
- Wasp stings
- Bee stings
- Hornet stings
- Horsefly stings or rather horsefly bites
Free of side effects as it is without chemicals
From my point of view, a big plus point of the electronic bite away stab healer is that it works “physically” and almost only has an effect through heat. No chemicals are used and so there are basically no side effects, apart from the brief heat pain, which you get used to quickly if you use the bite away stick more often.
In most cases, it also works immediately after the first application, so that you really only have to clench your teeth for 3 seconds (if at all) and then you have peace of mind.
My conclusion on the bite away stitch healer
Before buying it, I was very skeptical because I couldn't quite believe that three seconds of heat would give you a mosquito bite itch-free, which would otherwise annoy you for days.
In the meantime I have already bought three of these sticks because we "lent out" one and the acquaintances were so enthusiastic that they kept it straight away. And somehow you need two in the house because one of them is always "lost" somewhere. And without a bite away stick, every summer is much worse than it should be.
The effect is by no means imaginary. Everyone who has tried the stick with us has confirmed that the itching will go away after a few minutes. And the manufacturer's explanation of how the sting healer works is also plausible from my point of view.
Who doesn't yet bite away stitch healer should get one urgently. It is also a great gift for friends who do not know it yet. I now take it to every summer party, just like this one Anti-tick mosquito brake spray, which is even recommended by the WHO and works very well for us (and smells pleasant at the same time). At the latest when the evening comes and the first swarms of mosquitoes attack the guests, the bite away pen is a very popular visitor. ;-)

In occupational safety, 55 ° C is a limit; protective clothing must be worn above this (gloves, etc.).
The heat denatures the proteins (the same thing happens as when you boil an egg at 51 ° C). Those who are used to it can endure higher temperatures without it hurting them, but if you do it for too long, you will slowly cook.
Very good reference, I didn't know it yet. Gotta order one for me these days
Hello wolf! That fits in with the functional principle and the warning that the device is not used too often and too quickly in a row at one point. But really ... the thing is recommended. You will not be disappointed. Or I'll give you the money and use yours as the third stick in the house. : D
We have all been using this stick in the family for several years and therefore I can 100% agree with Jens' report. There is nothing better to treat mosquito bites.
The pain of the "burn" depends on the part of the body where you apply the stick. But it's bearable and doesn't blister.
Hello Jochen! Thanks for your feedback. It's good to hear that from other people again. I was afraid, my article sounds as if the bite away makers had booked an advertising contribution with me. : D
Top tip, thanks !! I already have three of them (always with me in my pocket) and since then I have less panic when the beasts are around. A great and real innovation - made in Germany :)
It's amazing how many people already know this thing. Although ... it's not entirely new. I've had it myself for years ...
This costs less than 5 euros and has been helping me and others in my circle of friends for years. The principle is similar, only that electricity is used instead of heat. You tap a few times per stitch and the effect is roughly what you describe in your article.
Kindly the thing is also very small and can be with you everywhere.

Hi Michael! Thanks you for the hint. However, the reviews of the product are rather “mixed”. Maybe I'll order one to test, then I can compare the two devices. :D
Top product. The egg-laying woolly milk sow, so to speak. Have 2 pieces in use
😂 Exactly!
