Epic Games Store announced for iOS and Android

As part of the Game Developer Conference (GDC), Epic Games announced that at the end of 2024 Epic Games Store to be available on iOS and Android devices. The alternative app marketplace will then serve as a source of supply for video games, so that you no longer have to download them from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. In addition to the company's own offerings (Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys, etc.), third-party offerings from the Epic Games Store should also be able to be loaded onto mobile devices - just like the existing offering for Mac and Windows PCs.

Epic Games has announced its own app stores for Apple iPhone and Android devices. These complement the offering that is already available for Windows PCs and the Apple Mac.

At just 12%, a more attractive revenue share than Apple

While Apple usually demands 30% of the revenue generated through its app stores, Epic only wants to collect 12% from third-party providers who use the marketplace offered. In the first six months, this fee is completely waived, so that it only takes effect from the seventh month. In addition, developers and studios should be offered the freedom to forgo purchase and in-app purchase options via the Epic Games Store in order to instead offer managed payments outside of it. For example, via your own website. Apple's "Core Technology Fee“ will still apply if the app has at least 1 million initial installations per year.

Those developing video games for iOS and Android may want to consider switching to the Epic Games Store for distribution. At least if Apple's core technology fee isn't a problem.
