HomePod Settings - This is where you will find the options

The Apple HomePod has now also arrived at the Apfelot house, and after setting up the Siri speaker, which was basically simple, I couldn't immediately understand where I can find the options for the device on the iPhone. There is a separate app for the Apple Watch, but not for the HomePod settings. Also not mentioned under the regular "Settings" on the iPhone. If you are looking for a solution to this problem or if you want to prepare for the setup of the HomePod, which will soon arrive, then you have come to the right place. In the following I have also linked you to the relevant Apple support documents.

Management of the Apple HomePod via the Home App

After a quick search, I am on the Apple support site HT208341 and there I found out that you can manage the HomePod using the Home App on the iPhone, which you can also use to manage all other HomeKit devices. In retrospect, this is a logical thing, because in principle you can put a HomePod in every room and then managing it with a single app would be quite complex. The Home app can be used to assign a specific room directly and then use commands such as “play music in the living room” to control where you want to listen to your music.

You can find the HomePod settings in the Apple Home app, in which all HomeKit devices are managed.

Accessibility for detailed HomePod settings

If you are in the HomeKit app "Home" just touches the entry "HomePod" lightly, then this is only "paused" or the music is paused. Only after a Force Touch (i.e. a firm pressure) does the window open in which you can choose between "Alarm Clock" and "Details". The HomePod settings are hidden behind "Details".

You get to the alarm clock, the details and thus to the HomePod accessibility via Force Touch. (see instructions below)

Some HomePod settings and the fine calibration of individual actions, the touch adjustment in particular, can not be found in the details, but in the accessibility features of the HomePod. You call it up as follows:

  1. Open the Home app
  2. Under "Home" or "Rooms", press and hold the HomePod icon (or tap and hold twice with VoiceOver)
  3. Tap the "Details" item
  4. Select "Accessibility"

You can also find the illustrated instructions and further information on the accessibility features for precise HomePod settings on the corresponding Apple site. In the future, there will be further advice, instructions and assistance here as well as, of course, a comprehensive test report on the Siri loudspeaker from Cupertino. Until then, I recommend these posts to you:
