You can already read here which gaming controllers are compatible with the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV: Game controller for Apple TV 4K and Apple Arcade. But how do you couple the gamepads with the devices from Cupertino? Exactly this question is answered in this guide. In particular, the following are instructions for pairing Apple devices with the PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller and the Xbox Wireless Controller.
To pair the iOS or iPad device with a wireless controller, you first have to activate Bluetooth. That goes z. B. over Settings -> Bluetooth, or about that control center. Then press and hold the Share button and the PS button on the DualSense controller of the Sony PlayStation 5 (see below) until the gamepad light flashes blue.
On the iPhone or iPad you now go to the Bluetooth settings and look for the controller from the "Other devices" list. If you tap on it, the devices may pair automatically. If that doesn't work yet, you have to tap on "Connect" after selecting the Bluetooth accessory. Then you can use the PS5 controller for Apple Arcade and Co. on the iPhone or iPad.
The procedure here is similar to that of the iPhone and iPad. On the Apple TV with tvOS you navigate to Settings -> Remote controls and devices -> Bluetooth. To pair, press the Share and PS buttons on the controller at the same time until the blue light flashes. Then select the gamepad in the Apple TV Bluetooth menu. If the devices are paired, you can use the PS5 controller to play games in Apple Arcade on the Apple TV and use similar functions.
The Xbox Wireless Controller of the Microsoft Xbox One or Xbox Series X / S can also be connected to Apple devices via Bluetooth. To do this, activate the Bluetooth connection on your iOS or iPadOS device via Settings -> Bluetooth or through the control center. Then hold the pairing button on the gamepad for a few seconds (see below).
On the iPhone or iPad, the controller should now appear in the overview of the Bluetooth devices in the "Other devices" list. Tap it to pair it as a new device. If that doesn't work right away, you may have to tap on "Connect". Then you should be able to use the input help, for example, to play games from Apple Arcade.
Basically, the procedure here is the same again. On the Apple TV with tvOS you first navigate to the menu Settings -> Remote controls and devices -> Bluetooth. Then press the pairing button on the top of the Xbox gamepad for a few seconds. It should then be displayed in the device list on your Apple TV. Select it for pairing and add it as an input device. You should now be able to use it for navigation, games and so on.
