If a mobile program is no longer needed, if it no longer works after an OS update or if space has to be cleared in the device memory, then an app can be uninstalled. But how does it work with Apple devices? How can you delete apps on iPhone and iPad? I'll show you in this guide. In the following there is also some information about pre-installed Apple apps and how to remove app icons from the home screen. This is because the software does not necessarily have to be uninstalled.
Delete the app on the iPhone and iPad: Here's how!
There are basically two simple solutions if you want to delete an iPad or iPhone app from the device. For both you have to hold down the app symbol. Depending on whether you want to use the context menu of the home screen shortcut or the later displayed minus symbol, you proceed as follows:
Hold down the app symbol until the context menu appears and then tap the red formatted menu item "Remove app", then select "Delete app" and confirm again with "Delete".
Hold down the app link, move it and then release it so that a minus symbol appears in the top left corner - then tap it, select "Delete app" and confirm again with "Delete".
Remove the app from the home screen: There are also two ways
As with deleting apps on iOS or iPadOS, there are two very similar ways to remove them from the home screen. These start like the uninstallation that I explained to you above. To remove an app from the home screen of the iPhone or iPad, proceed as follows:
Hold down the app symbol until the context menu appears and then tap the red formatted menu item "Remove app", then select "Remove from home screen".
Press and hold the app shortcut, move it and then release it so that a minus symbol appears in the top left corner - then tap it and select "Remove from home screen".
You can also select “Edit Home Screen” from the context menu, but that is only an intermediate step to the second item on this list.
This happens when you remove an app from the home screen (from iOS 14): The app link is removed from the home screen, but the app itself remains with all functions and data. You can then find it in the app library. You can call it up in different ways, the easiest way is to swipe to the left on the last home screen.
Which Apple apps can be uninstalled from the iPhone and iPad?
Apple offers a wide range of its own apps for iOS and iPadOS, some of which are preinstalled on the iPhone and iPad. In addition to the camera, messages and other essential apps that cannot be removed, there are quite a few optional apps. As of iOS 14, these are the pre-installed Apple apps that can be deleted (as of November 29, 2021):
Now you know how to delete an app on the iPhone or remove it on the iPad. What are your tips and tricks for the efficient use of Apple mobile devices? Do you use multiple home screens and / or folders for different apps? Do you use the focus function to access other programs at different times or on different days? Feel free to leave a comment on the topic - and also if you have any further questions about the use of Apple devices!
