Chapter in this post:
For some it is currently: off on vacation! For the others: pack your suitcase and go home! - Although the summer holidays in Germany are staggered and show different (but of course overlapping) dates in the 16 federal states, traffic jams and other traffic problems can occur. So if you want to drive to the south or perhaps to the Baltic Sea or North Sea by car, you need a lot of patience in addition to anticipation and sunscreen. As well as the apps presented here on the iPhone or Android smartphone.
Während Apple cards mainly works online and allows you to calculate and follow a route thanks to mobile data, Google Maps trumps with offline maps. This has to be downloaded before the trip and can then be navigated in it. The disadvantage: traffic jam reports, construction site displays or other traffic restrictions cannot then be viewed in real time. It is therefore best to use mobile data volume for the trip on vacation and to leave the navigation app of choice connected to the network. In this way, free alternative routes can also be found quickly.

Not bad either: HERE WeGo navigation app for iOS and Android
If you want to get to your destination quickly and without standing around on the motorway, you can also use the app StauMobil to install. As soon as you start driving, it is worth taking a look at the software so that you can react directly to restrictions if necessary. In combination with the aforementioned map and navigation apps, it is a great addition.

In the meantime, map applications for iOS and Android also offer the display of petrol stations, POIs and other important locations; but there are also programs that focus on specific institutions. More refueling is such a program that not only shows the petrol stations in the selected region, but also their fuel prices. So you can quickly find a way to find the cheapest refueling in the region. In addition, a gas station or rest stop is not the worst choice for stretching your legs on a long journey.

To stay cool without running the engine: USB and hand fan
Especially for the traffic jam, but also for a smooth holiday trip, there should of course always be enough to drink in the car; best in one cooling box. Eating something in a traffic jam is not only a distraction for the driver and front passenger, but especially for the children in the back seat. Trail mix, for example, is good for the nerves and holds up well.
Eating and drinking are only brief occupations. If the traffic jam lasts longer, a children's tablet or children's apps on the iPad can calm things down. Also car-friendly games - in physical form or á la “I see what you don't see” - are always good. Or maybe a book or a film. It is only important that you think about it before leaving;)
