Create iPhone mockups for apps or websites yourself

Create iPhone mockups yourself

As a web designer or app developer, you are sometimes faced with the challenge of presenting your work beautifully for customers, the app store or for other occasions. Instead of a pure screenshot, it is better to choose a photo in which an iPhone is shown, on whose screen the screenshot can be seen. You know this for sure if you have looked at apps in the Apple App Store and an iPhone is displayed there.

Since complex lighting conditions, moiré patterns and reflective surfaces make it very difficult to take such photos yourself, it is best to use appropriate templates in which you can incorporate your own screenshot. The result is then called a mockup - in our special case: iPhone mockup.

Also useful for bloggers

For me as a blogger, such an iPhone mockup tool doesn't seem that interesting at first, but I still use it quite often. In my case, I use it to create featured images for blog articles in which I write about certain apps or error messages.

The pure screenshots are less suitable for sharing on Instagram or Pinterest, but if you build them into a chic mockup, they usually turn out to be quite appealing photos that can be shared.

I don't have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, but with Placeit I can still do a photo mockup that looks like my app is running on a new iPhone 11 Pro.

My preferred solution: Placeit.net

Since I would like to work with such contribution images more often (if there is no photogenic product), I started looking for a mockup tool at Placeit.net landed. The portal offers logo templates, video intros and thousands of mockups for a wide variety of products such as books, T-shirts, bags, packaging, hoodies and of course for Apple products such as iPad, iPhone, MacBook, iMac and Apple Watch.

The number of mockups is also impressive: If I search for the "iPhone 11 Pro Max" model, I get over 70 different mockup templates for this particular iPhone alone. If I don't narrow down the search and search through all iPhone mockups, I end up with almost 2000 mockups.

Even if you need a mockup on which the most important Apple devices such as iMac, MacBook, iPad and iPhone can be seen, Placeit can help with appropriate templates.

Different Apple devices in one mockup

For developers designing both a Mac app and an iOS app, it may be interesting to have a mockup that includes an iMac, MacBook, iPad, and iPhone. Placeit also offers appropriate templates for this, in which you can upload your own screenshot for each device.

When selecting the iPhone mockups on Placeit, you can even filter according to different models in order to be able to present your app in the current Apple flagship, for example.

Good selection: iPhone 6 to iPhone 11 Pro

With the iPhone mockups, the results can even be filtered according to specific models. The following iPhone models are currently stored in Placeit's mock-up database:

The great thing is that new iPhone models are updated with new mockups in a timely manner. But even for older models there are often iPhone mockups that are new and expand the already good selection.

If you upload your screenshot to Placeit, you can already see in the overview of the mockups what the photos look like with your own file.

Dissolution of the mockups

The resolution that Placeit offers is 1920 x 1280 pixels in landscape format and 1242 x 2688 pixels in portrait format. There are also a few other formats, but this is where the resolution of the photos moves.

At the top of the post is a mockup my article on Quick Look. This picture has a resolution of 1920 x 1280 pixels, which at 300 dpi would be about 16 x 11 cm in size without any loss of quality in a print product. That is not enough for a DIN A4 full format print, but it is easily enough for an article in a magazine.

The resolution of the mockups is even large enough for printing and is easily sufficient for any website.

Placeit pricing models

Of course offers Placeit.net do not offer this service for free. If you need a mockup for the iPhone or other Apple devices, you can choose between these three price models:

  1. you just buy a mockup and pay a one-time price of around 3 euros
  2. you book a monthly subscription for around 15 euros and have access to all mockups and all other templates from Placeit
  3. you book an annual subscription for around 100 euros and have access to all mockups and all other templates from Placeit

For me as a blogger, the annual subscription is definitely interesting because I often write posts in which screenshots should be placed appropriately - if not in the post, then at least on social media, where you always post a picture for each post should that looks reasonably appealing.

If you are also for Placeit.net interested, you can view all iPhone mockups herethat can be found there.
