Chapter in this post:
The DFU mode on the Apple iPhone describes the device status for a Device Firmware Update. In this mode it is possible to upload an older firmware, an old backup or, for example, SHSH data. It is also possible to restore an iPhone in this maintenance mode that was "destroyed" by a jailbreak. You can read how to get there with older models of Apple smartphones in the Instructions linked here. The steps described below are for the iPhone without a home button on the front. With it you can put an iPhone X, Xs, Xs Max, XR and upcoming models in DFU mode.
Please remember that an Apple Mac or Windows PC with iTunes and an active internet connection should be available for installing new firmware or resetting the iPhone in maintenance mode. If this is the case, you proceed as follows to be able to reinstall a backup or a fresh firmware via iTunes:
If you want to exit DFU mode on an iPhone without a home button, then simply carry out a firmware update or a firmware change successfully. Because afterwards the iPhone will restart automatically. If you started the maintenance mode accidentally or out of curiosity or if the maintenance does not work, you can also exit the DFU mode manually: Simply press the side button (right) and the volume down button (bottom left).
