Solution: Mac App Store promo code or voucher code cannot be redeemed

A few days ago Stefan asked me why he couldn't redeem a voucher code or promo code in the Mac App Store on his Mac. These codes are usually in order to be able to download a normally paid app for free or to add iTunes credit to your account, which you can then of course also use to shop in the App Store. His question:

Although I can no matter what Mac and no matter whether under Sierra or High Sierra in the Mac App Enter store promo codes – or codes purchased from the Apple VPP (Volume Purchase Program) – the way you normally redeem codes there, but then nothing happens.

Previously a Redeem button appeared, now no button appears and it happens after entering code null. Do you know of a bug or something similar?

The solution: Logging out and logging in with the Apple ID

Unfortunately, my answer wasn't very helpful because I didn't know the bug and couldn't recreate it. However, the solution came a few hours later from Stefan himself and should help you here if you are struggling with the same problem:

Somehow there seems to be a small bug in the Mac App Store when you are logged in with your Apple ID ...

The solution was very simple: I logged out of my account via the taskbar at the top of the “Store” tab in the App Store. Then click on the "Redeem" button and log in again with the Apple ID and password.

Then the field appears in which you can enter the promo code or the code from the Apple VPP store. As soon as you enter something in the field, the redeem button appears again immediately and the download of the corresponding app starts after a click.
