With nine questions and answers, we go into this Nintendo Switch OLED Model FAQ on improvements, 4K resolution, games, accessories, compatibility, release, price and other details.

What improvements does the Nintendo Switch OLED model bring?

Compared to the current models from 2017 and 2019, the Nintendo Switch OLED model from 2021 includes an OLED display with a 7-inch (17,78 cm) diagonal. The previous model was only 6,2 inches (15,75 cm) and used LCD technology. Accordingly, the colors on the new display are more vivid, the contrast is higher and the overall picture is hopefully more beautiful. There are also larger speakers, a larger stand for table mode, 64GB instead of 32GB internal storage and a LAN connection on the station. The battery life remains the same at 4,5 to 9 hours.

Does the Nintendo Switch OLED model have 4K resolution?

In TV mode, i.e. when the handheld element is in the dock, picture and sound can be output to the television via HDMI. Up to now, only a Full HD resolution of 1.920 x 1.080 pixels was available for this. And with the Nintendo Switch OLED model? Likewise. Again, there is only a 1080p output of the image. So the answer is: No, 4K resolution is not possible. Perhaps with the “Nintendo Switch Pro” that may appear or with a completely new console.

Can I play all Nintendo Switch games on the OLED model?

Yes, as far as Switch games go, it is Nintendo Switch OLED model completely backwards compatible. Both game modules and downloadable titles from the Nintendo eShop can be played in handheld, table and TV modes (depending on individual compatibility). Future titles will likely appear for all three models as well: Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch OLED model.

Current title: Mario golf super rush

Can I use the latest Joy-Cons and other accessories on the new console?

Yes, the Joy-Cons, the Pro Controller and certainly third-party accessories like the one Beboncool controller for the Nintendo Switch are compatible with the new console. So if you want to upgrade your hardware, but still want to keep the purchased controllers, the GameCube controllers for Super Smash Bros. or other peripherals, then that is possible without any problems.

Are there any limitations in the backward compatibility of the Nintendo Switch OLED model?

There may be individual restrictions if the accessories have something to do with the display. While the general dimensions of the console remain the same except for a few millimeters, the screen is enlarged from 6,2 inches to 7,0 inches. This means that protective films and Nintendo Labo accessories (e.g. Toy-Con and VR glasses) are no longer fully compatible.

Can the switch in the LAN dock and the OLED model in the old dock be used?

Yes, the new console can be used in the old station and the old console in the LAN station. Nintendo points out, however, that previously a System update is to be carried out. Which firmware version is meant and when it will appear has not yet been mentioned.

Can I move my user account to the new console?

Yes, as with the purchase of current Switch versions, the user account with the eShop purchases, saved games and other content can also be transferred to the Nintendo Switch OLED model. Nintendo offers instructions on how to do this on its website.

When can I buy the Nintendo Switch OLED model?

The Nintendo Switch with OLED display comes on 8. October 2021 in the trade. You can probably pre-order them from the end of September 2021. We keep our eyes open and inform you about offers that we discover online.

What does the Nintendo Switch OLED model cost?

Shortly after the console was unveiled, some sources put the Nintendo Switch OLED model at a price of $ 349,99, £ 250 and Australian dollars, respectively. If you want to translate these price announcements into euros, you can probably orientate yourself on the US price. So the Nintendo Switch with OLED display would cost something between 450 euros and 300 euros. However, today all the pages that I have rummaged through continuously report that the Price for the Nintendo Switch OLED model 399 euros should be.
