The macOS Ventura update went through for me personally without any major annoyances. I had made a backup beforehand, as I always recommend to other people, but I rarely do it myself. And maybe that's why it did well too. According to Murphy's law, problems always arise when you don't have a backup at the start.
That's what happened to my reader Angelica, who describes the update as "total crap". No wonder, because after the update to Ventura, her keyboard settings got so messed up that she suddenly had the English keyboard layout on her Mac.
Since the view of the system settings has also changed with the update, she probably couldn't find the right way to teach the Mac the German QWERTZ keyboard layout again.
Here you can see where you can make the settings. The input sources can be found in the system settings in the "Keyboard" area.
Solution: Add "German" to the keyboard input source
In order for the Mac to have a German keyboard layout again, you have to check whether this is already available for selection. This is done in the following way:
System Settings
Keyboard
Input Sources → Edit
German
You will probably find “English” in the left column. If "German" is also available there, you can select it here (step 4).
At the bottom left is the plus sign, which can be used to add a new language.
In the large list of input sources you can select "German".
If no "Deutsch" is available, you first have to click on the plus symbol at the bottom left and then select "Deutsch" from the large list. If you then go back, select "German" from the list of available input sources.
Now your Mac should spit out the correct letters and characters on your German keyboard when you type something.
Do you have other problems with your Mac keyboard? Then let me know in the comments and I'll try to write you a suitable solution.

Frank I
I think if something like that happened, the system was screwed up beforehand.
This has never happened on any of my Apple computers (regardless of the system).
Hey Frank! It has been since. But I've also had here and there with macOS updates that settings have become independent. It's not tragic if you know where to turn it straight again.
