EarFun kindly sent me theirs EarFun Air Pro 3 headphones sent for a review. The Air Pro 3 are in-ear headphones that close completely with the ear canal. I would describe them as "cheap all-rounders" because they combine many features of other headphones and are reasonably cheap at just under 80 euros.

The special features of the EarFun Air Pro 3
If you want to highlight some features of the EarFun Air Pro 3 that make these headphones special, then I would choose the following:
- active noise cancellation (ANC)
- Bluetooth 5.3 and aptX Adaptive (uninteresting for iPhone and iPad)
- Battery life of up to 45 hours with charging case
- Simultaneous connection and automatic switching between two connected devices (multipoint Bluetooth)
- Game mode for low latency
- IPX5: sweat and water resistant
- wireless charging (Qi charging)
- Equalizer via the EarFun app
Below I will give the technical data again in full.
Comparison EarFun Air Pro 2 vs. Air Pro 3
The latest Qualcomm QCC3 chip is used in the EarFun Air Pro 3071, which specifically supports the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive codec and the LC3 codec. It also has the Qualcomm cVc 8.0 algorithm for reducing call noise and enables multipoint connections.
The Bluetooth version 5.3 with a low latency of 55 ms and an impressive battery life of up to 45 hours are further advantages over the Air Pro 2.
The Air Pro 2 has received numerous optimizations, including excellent sound quality, noise reduction and call performance. It also supports in-ear detection, which is not the case with the Air Pro 3 - at least that's what the manufacturer says about the differences between the two models.

Optics and workmanship
The headphones I have received from EarFun so far have all been of decent quality. This is also the case with the EarFun Air Pro 3. What made me particularly happy: Removing the earphones from the charging case is not a fumbling process, as is the case with other manufacturers who focus on design.
The headphones also look good. I would say: elegant and unobtrusive. Even the small LED that lights up here and there for a status message is small and unobtrusively installed on the top, where it doesn't catch the eye directly.
Due to the color, which is somehow reminiscent of "space gray", the headphones match the rest of my Apple equipment.
Service
EarFun used touch fields for operation, which I don't really love. But one thing has to be said for the EarFun solution: it works – even with wet fingers.
This means that the EarFun Air Pro 3 can also be recommended as sports headphones without hesitation, because they are also quite stable in the ears.
So in summary: Despite the touch operation, the EarFun Air Pro 3 works reliably.
The operation itself can be reprogrammed via the EarFun app as you would like it to be.
These “commands” work by default:
- tap left once → quieter
- tap right once → louder
- double tap left or right → pause/play
- triple tap left → previous track
- triple tap on the right → next track
- tap left and hold 2s → switch ANC mode (off/ambient/on)
- right tap and hold 2s → Call Siri
Of course you can also accept and reject calls, but I hardly use these things and would therefore refer you to the operating instructions.
sound quality
When I first listened to it, I was frankly disappointed. I listened to a few songs and kept switching between my AirPods 3 and EarFun Air Pro 3 and I just couldn't get over how muffled the EarFun Air Pro 3 sounded.
After installing the EarFun app and playing around with the equalizer, the EarFun headphones now sound significantly better than the AirPods 3.
The bass is particularly impressive when you turn it up again in the EQ. Then you can actually feel the bass even when the volume is low.
My preferred setting for the EQ is a small increase in mids and highs, because the bass is already very crisp and good.
Incidentally, you can save the equalizer settings in the app under different names and thus switch between your own presets. The current EQ setting is stored in the EarFun Air Pro 3 so that the playback remains the same - no matter which device you send the music to the EarFun earphones.
1. Screenshot: On the overview page you can change the ANC, activate the game mode or go to the equalizer. At the top right of the gear you get to the firmware update, among other things.
2. Screenshot: Here you can see my EQ setting, which I think gets the best sound out of the EarFun Air Pro 3. But of course you can adjust it however you like.
3. Screenshot: Firmware updates are very easily imported via the app. You have to take the earphones out of the case and put them down.
How good is the ANC?
Let's come to a small weak point of the EarFun Air Pro 3: the active noise cancellation. The manufacturer advertises here with over 40 dB, which is said to reduce the ambient noise:
The Quietsmart 2.0 eliminates up to 43 dB of outside noise in noise reduction mode.
Of course I can't measure this value, but I can give you my personal impression. Both the AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max with their own ANC are available for comparison and the EarFun Air Pro 3 are unfortunately lengths behind the AirPods Pro.
I think they do well on low-pitched hum like trains, cars, or planes, but unfortunately they have very little ability to filter out speech or high frequencies.
In my tests with the vacuum cleaner, it was even the case that the low frequencies were significantly reduced, but the high, annoying tones from the vacuum cleaner noise were even more audible. The EarFun Air Pro 3 are definitely not suitable for this.
On the other hand, it is positive to note that in addition to the ANC, you also have an ambient mode, which passes through the ambient noise, for example to hold calls without having to remove the earplugs.
The bottom line is that you should definitely not buy the EarFun Air Pro 3 because of the ANC. There are actually better in-ear headphones out there, such as the AirPods Pro. Although they cost significantly more, they also offer a very good ANC and perfect integration into the Apple ecosystem.
Multipoint Bluetooth
This feature works surprisingly well. You can basically connect it to two Bluetooth—enabled devices and then switch between the two sources.
I connected the EarFun Air Pro 3 to my iPhone and iPad and then tried out how they behave when I send audio to the earbuds from one device and another.
The result was impressive, at least for me: The EarFun Air Pro 3 automatically selected the right device and switched promptly.
However, if the currently connected device is currently broadcasting audio, then no switch is made - which I think is handy for everyday use. How often do you have to struggle with the automatic switching of the AirPods, which simply switches to another device because a ping about a new mail is being played there. That doesn't happen with the EarFun Air Pro 3.
My conclusion
At first I was afraid that I would have to advise against the Air Pro 3 because the sound in the "normal position" hadn't convinced me that much. However, EarFun saved everything with the EQ function in the app, because it allowed me to adjust the sound very well and from the bass to the treble everything sounded good to very good.
My only gripe is actually the noise cancellation, which I think could be better. But apart from the ANC, the EarFun Air Pro 3 are a recommendation.
They sit well in the ears, are easy to use and sweat-resistant and have a convincing sound - and an absolutely acceptable price of around 80 euros.
With the EQ, they can also be adjusted to your own listening preferences for every genre of music, from rock to R&B to classic.
