The last test of a "Bluetooth Howler Cube", as some people like to call Bluetooth boxes, was several months ago. I am all the more pleased that Anker has once again sent me such a product that I can take a close look at. This is the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus Bluetooth Lautsprecher.
The peculiarities that can be directly mentioned are the following:
- IP67 water and dust protection
- perfect for the beach, pool or garden
- floatable
- 20 hours of battery life
- Extra bass (can be activated)
But well, there is some more data that I might attach directly here.

Design and processing of the Soundcore Bluetooth box
The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus Box is of course something for people who like to be on the beach or at the pool with the box. You can also take the box to the workshop and to the literature circle, but I don't think that's the product's target group. The equipment of the box with a handle and detachable strap for hanging is therefore quite appropriate.
Nevertheless, the box is relatively reserved in design and completely in black. So I don't find the design quite as exquisite as the Bowers & Wilkins boxes, but still good.
There is nothing to complain about in terms of processing. The control buttons are real buttons with rubber coating and no touch frills that would no longer work at the slightest contact with water.
The IP67 protection class allows the box to be submerged in the pool and it actually floats in the pool, making it a good partner in and around the water. Due to the dustproof contact with a sandy beach is not a problem.
Here, Anker has delivered a good product that will certainly last for years and ensure proper sound reinforcement.
The sound of the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus
Let's get straight to the crux of the matter in any speaker test: assessing the sound. Here I can already say in advance: the speaker's sound spectrum is not for friends of classical music, but rather scores with bass-heavy songs. This is then additionally ensured by the bass boost function, which can be activated via a button on the box.
If you switch on the additional bass, the membranes of the woofers, which are attached to the left and right of the box, move back and forth by 5 millimeters and thus ensure extra strong bass. This is undoubtedly quite impressive, but it doesn't suit every genre of music - that's why this function can also be deactivated.
Otherwise, I was surprised at how loud the speaker could be turned up without experiencing any distortion or rattling. I think you should be able to do most parties at home with the box. You only need two or three of the boxes for extensive garden parties so that the music still sounds reasonable over long distances.
A pleasant sound, even quietly
I'm not really the type who wants to play my music to my neighbors or roommates. That's why it's important to me that speakers still sound good when you're running them at a low room volume.
The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus is quite good at this. The sound is also very balanced in the lower performance range (with the already mentioned plus in the bass range).
Classic with Bass Boost turned off
Classical music has different areas of the frequency spectrum that are important than is the case with current pop music. For this reason, bass-heavy speakers are rarely a good choice if you're a fan of classical music. In such cases, I would Riva Turbo X grab, but also got a recommendation from a reader who is with his loudspeaker recommendation for classical music has sent.
However, the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus also has a lot to offer here if you activate the bass boost function. If you are still not satisfied with the sound, you can use the Soundcore app to activate a special equalizer for classic music.
All in all, I can only praise the sound of the Motion Boom Plus. The woofers on the sides ensure strong air movement, which definitely gets a lot out of deep bass. If you activate the bass boost button, you can hear a clear difference.
Otherwise, the sound is nice and round, the highs aren't intrusive but are present and it's fun to listen to music with the Soundcore speakers.
Soundcore Motion Boom vs Motion Boom Plus
If you look around in stores, you will find that in addition to the Soundcore Motion Book Plus presented here, there is also a model called the Soundcore Motion Boom (without Plus). The differences between the two speakers are as follows:
You can see that the performance of the drivers is significantly lower in the model without Plus and the dimensions are also smaller. That should definitely make a difference in sound. Unfortunately, I couldn't listen to both speakers against each other because I only had the Motion Boom Plus available for the test, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't hear a difference in sound.
Robust enough for the beach and outdoors?
There is hardly anything to improve on the IP protection class of the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus. With IP67 it is waterproof, dustproof and on top of that – and this is not regulated in the IP class – it can also swim in water.
But the case is mostly made of hard plastic and has no rubber bumpers. This makes it a bit sensitive to falls and impacts on hard materials. The Soundcore Motion Boom Plus hasn't been damaged in my case yet and I think that if you handle it reasonably carefully, nothing will break. In any case, there is no danger on the beach or in the meadows.
My conclusion on the Soundcore Motion Boom Plus
No question, with a price of just under 180 euros, the Soundcore loudspeaker is not in the price range that you would just get it. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it is a good purchase if you want a decent sound outdoors. I think it easily generates enough volume to fill a beach or garden party.
The sound is - as you would expect from such a speaker - quite bass-heavy, but you can also switch off the bass booster with a button and then get a sound that is also well suited for classical music, news or podcasts.
If you want to tinker even more with the sound, the Soundcore app is the right tool to choose from existing presets or create your own equalizer.
If you are looking for a high-quality loudspeaker for outdoors, you can get this Soundcore Motion Boom Plus definitely have a look.
