A few days ago the manufacturer Artwizz sent me a screen protector or rather a display protection glass for testing, which in addition to the protective function also has a privacy filter built in. That means, if you look sideways at the iPhone, you can no longer see anything. This is useful, for example, if you often sit on the bus or train and you don't want the person sitting next to you to read.
And presumably, such a privacy screen for mobile devices will soon be mandatory anyway within the framework of the GDPR ... you shouldn't burden your neighbors with your own data. Otherwise he has to sign a cookie notice for us. ;-)
Attachment: Super easy!
In my life I have attached at most one or two display foils, so I am absolutely inexperienced in this regard. The instructions supplied by Artwizz can be found on the inside of the packaging. There is also a cleaning cloth and a small adhesive film that you can use to remove the last grains of dust from the display.
Since I have three cats living with me, it is more dusty than dust-free here. So that I could keep the display free of hair and dust for at least a while until the glass was attached, the table on which I mounted the protective film was first wiped off. Then I went to it with the cleaning cloth and cleaned the display of my iPhone X (I needed the XS for the photos!).
When you have the display deep into the pores, you pull off the protective glass from the plastic carrier. But you should be careful not to bend the protective glass, otherwise it can break. So it's better to pull it off slowly and bend the carrier rather than the glass. If you then have the clean iPhone on the table, place the protective glass with the side on which the recess for the notch is on the iPhone display and make sure that it fits on both sides.
When you are satisfied, you press the top of the screen protection glass next to the notch with your finger so that it does not slip any more and slowly place the rest of the protection glass on the iPhone. It worked for me the first time. If you have attached it at an angle, you can simply pull the glass off again and try a new one.
As a rule, you now have a few more or less large air bubbles under the glass. This can be brushed out to the edges with light pressure and the cleaning cloth. This works without much effort if you simply wipe the bubbles outwards several times with light pressure.
Protective glass for the iPhone display
What you notice when you attach the display protection: you have real glass in your hand. It hardly bends and is already significantly thicker than a standard protective film. Of course, the protective glass also offers the iPhone display much more protection and also keeps sharp-edged things from damaging the iPhone. As a rule, only the protective glass breaks and the display underneath is still fine.
Privacy function - more privacy?
To be honest, I was surprised by the privacy protection. I already thought that you could see an effect, but I didn't expect it to be so shielding. In the photos, it looks as if the display was switched off from the side viewing angle. In fact, it wasn't. Artwizz's PrivacyGlass just works so well. ;-)
What you should keep in mind: The protection only works if you use the iPhone in portrait mode. If you watch films in landscape format, your neighbors can also watch, since the protection only "filters out" left and right perspectives (in portrait format) but not views from above or below.
Operation and optics
There are some negative reviews on Amazon that complain about the accuracy of fit and the poor display image. I expected that Artwizz's product would certainly have some disadvantages in terms of display. From my point of view, these are hardly noticeable. I can't see any problems with the fit either. The glass has a black edge, but if you attach it correctly, it doesn't cover any part of the display.
I've been using the iPhone with the privacy screen protector/glass for a while now, but the screen is at most a little darker than before. If you increase the brightness of the iPhone a bit, this is also "fixed". I didn't notice a big difference, but I could most likely understand the slight loss of brightness.
What happens, of course, through the privacy filter: If you hold the iPhone in front of you, turned it at an angle to the left or right, you will notice that the picture is first a little blurry and then darker and darker. But that's not a problem, but the feature of a privacy glass.
Touch operation is also not negatively affected. The iPhone X reacts smoothly and you don't have to apply more pressure than usual for the Force Touch either.
My conclusion on the Artwizz display protection glass with privacy protection
If you are specifically looking for a display protection that also prevents viewing from the side, you will hit the mark Artwizz PrivacyGlass for the iPhone X or XS sure a good choice. The workmanship, accuracy of fit and the privacy protection effect were definitely noticed very positively in the PrivacyGlass we tested - I had no reason to complain about anything. The PrivacyGlass is of course available in the right sizes for iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8Plus, XS, XS Max and XR.
If you don't need a privacy filter, you can use it Artwizz SecondDisplay protective glass better, since there are no restrictions on the display when viewing from the side or in terms of brightness.
