In the test: YaberAuto YA60 – jump starter power bank for diesel vehicles with a displacement of up to 12 liters

Do you remember how you used to get jump-start help if your car battery was discharged overnight because you stupidly left the lights on? Yes, you still had to line up two cars opposite each other, which was a real challenge in some parking situations. Then lay two cables from one car battery to the other and then hope that your own car starts.

Fortunately, those days have been over for a while, because these days you simply take a jump starter power bank and connect it to your own car battery. Then start the car and it's done. This way you can get out of stupid situations completely without any outside help.

This report is about the YaberAuto YA60 jump starter power bank, which the manufacturer gave me free of charge for testing. However, the test itself could not influence YaberAuto and it was published without consulting YaberAuto. So you’re reading my honest opinion – without any influence.

Used successfully in the practical test itself

Unfortunately, I speak from painful experience, because I also had a dead battery on my VW bus. Most of the time it ran reasonably reliably, but at some point my bus wouldn't start.

At that time I had just had another jump starter power bank on the bus and was finally able to try it out. Lo and behold, the technology works. The device was even able to start my diesel engine. You can read the complete story here in the post ...

Since then, I have been an enthusiastic supporter of these jump starter power banks and always keep one in the car so that I have it at hand when help is needed.

The second emergency was much more relaxed because I couldn't start at home and we had a second car if necessary. Perfect conditions for a test.
This is a photo of my practical use of a jump starter power bank. At that time it was still a weaker model from ROAV, but it was able to start my diesel bus.
The size difference makes it clear why the YaberStart offers 6000 amps of peak power, while the smaller ROAV jump starter can only deliver 1000 amps.

Processing and appearance of the jump starter power bank

The look of the jump starter is designed to appeal to technically savvy people. It has a robust and practical design that is designed for use in emergencies.

The jump starter seems very clean to me. Plastic was used for the casing, but it looks like it could handle rough treatment. The buttons are easy to find and use. Even with gloves you shouldn't have a problem.

The device has a gray casing with textured sides that provide additional grip. There is an easy-to-read digital display on the top that shows the current charging status in large numbers.

Below the charge level there is another display that shows IN and OUT and also shows the power that is currently flowing out of or into the power bank. This is very helpful to see if the jump starter or connected device is currently charging.

The workmanship of the YaberAuto YA60 is very good and the display is easy to read even in daylight.

Sockets protected behind rubber cover

All of the USB sockets, the 12-volt output and the connection for the cable clamps are located on the side of the device. To ensure that no problems arise even in rainy weather, this area is provided with a rubber or silicone cover that can be folded up when you need to reach sockets.

This is very well done and should be able to be done with gloves even in bad weather due to the thickness of the cover.

The cover over the sockets offers sufficient protection against splash water (photos: Sir Apfelot).

12 volts via cigarette lighter adapter

The YA60 also comes with an adapter to operate devices on the power bank that require a connection to a cigarette lighter socket. You plug this adapter into the 12-volt output and can then connect the corresponding device to the vehicle socket.

The included adapter allows you to connect a device that normally needs to be powered by a cigarette lighter.

Transport bag and accessories

The YaberAuto power bank comes with a transport bag in which the power bank is stored on one side and all cables on the other side. The cable side can be secured with a zipper so that no parts can get lost.

The carrying case with soft interior padding and red zipper line for a pop of color provides decent protection against bumps and scratches, making the power bank portable and travel-friendly.

You can throw the box directly into the trunk and not have to worry about anything damaging the device.

Operating the YaberAuto YA60

On the left side of the jump starter power bank is the boost and power button. The power button is pressed briefly to activate the display. This way you can quickly see what is happening while loading.

A long press on the power button activates the flashlight and a further press on it changes the flashlight mode from steady on to SOS and to strobe.

The boost button is used to activate the jump start process. If you press the boost button for a few seconds, the word “BOOST” appears at the bottom right of the display. The start aid mode is now activated.

All important information is printed on the back of the jump starter - from the technical data to the error codes and the instructions.

This is how you give jump start help with the YaberAuto YA60

So that in an emergency you quickly know how to give jump-start help with the power bank, how the process works and what error codes there may be are printed on the back.

Here's a brief outline of the process when you actually need to give jump-start help:

  1. Connect the cable with the jump starter terminals to the power bank.
  2. Connect the terminals to the car battery.
  3. Press and hold the Boost button for approx. 3 seconds until the display turns on and “Boost” appears.
  4. Get in the car and start it.
  5. Leave the car running and disconnect the jump starter power bank.

Error codes

If it actually happens that something doesn't work, you have to check whether an error message appears on the display. You will then see a triangle with an exclamation mark and the power bank will beep. The number that then appears on the display is important for assigning the error message

The error codes are briefly explained here:

  • ⚠️ + Beeping + 9: Connections reversed.
  • ⚠️ + Beep + 8: Temperature of the jump starter power bank is too low or too high (should be between -15,5°C and +60°C).
  • ⚠️ + Beep + 7: Surge protection tripped. Turn off the car and wait 30 seconds for the warning to reset.
  • ⚠️ + Beep + 6: Made over 4 start attempts. Do not attempt to start again for 10 minutes.

Use as a power bank

The jump starter power bank from YaberAuto is not only suitable for jump starting, but you can also charge other devices via the outputs.

I tried this with my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro and found that the power bank also USB Power Delivery used to negotiate higher charging power.

My MacBook Pro used a full 44 watts to charge, but the power bank loses about 3 percentage points of charge to gain one percentage point on the MacBook Pro. So you can barely get your empty MacBook Pro a third full.

In addition, the power bank does not start charging if it does not have more charge than the MacBook Pro. I couldn't figure out exactly if there was a certain threshold or if the percentage points were actually being compared. However, it definitely happened that I connected the MacBook Pro and the charging line was only 1 or 2 watts.

Here my wife's MacBook Pro is currently charging with 44 watts - it also uses USB C Power Delivery.

My conclusion about the YaberAuto YA60

For me, jump starter power banks are a difficult product category when it comes to real everyday testing. Unlike headphones, I can't really try these devices out in an emergency because I don't have a car with a defective car battery on call.

This means that I can promise you that jump starter power banks actually work and can be used to start a car, but I cannot carry out a test with this device.

The YaberAuto YA60 has numerous other functions and as far as I was able to test it, everything works perfectly and also with the performance data mentioned.

The workmanship of the jump starter power bank is very high quality and robust. In practical use, the simple operation and the practical storage box are helpful in always having the device with you and storing it safely.

The huge display also gives you an insight into the charge level and functions at any time, such as charging the power bank or charging connected devices.

The USB-C socket can be used to charge the power bank itself as well as to power other devices.
The USB-C socket can be used to charge the power bank itself as well as to power other devices.

For me the YaberAuto YA60 a very successful jump starter power bank because it can be used in a variety of ways. If you are looking for a simple starting aid, you will find it with this YR200 a cheap alternative, but I think it's nice that you can also use the YA60 to charge the iPad, iPhone or MacBook.

And with the USB-C input and output and the quick charging function, you can fill the power bank very quickly. So from my point of view, the thing is a nice, well-rounded overall package.

By the way, I couldn't find any real points of criticism with the YaberAuto YA60 - something that I don't really like, because there is usually always one thing or another that can be criticized. But ok, maybe the one provided could USB-C cable be a little longer, because it is only about 50 cm.

Have you already had experience with jump starter power banks? Then feel free to leave a comment about which devices you use and how the operation went.
