Differences between the Kryonaut, Conductonaut, Aeronaut, and Hydronaut

The manufacturer Thermal Grizzly offers four different thermal paste, which are intended for different purposes and different users. Here is a brief overview of the products with an explanation of which paste can be used where. Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut

As you can almost imagine from the product name, the Aeronaut paste is particularly intended for use on systems that work with air cooling. Thermal Grizzly calls it a thermal paste for beginners, which nevertheless transports heat away very efficiently. It is the easiest of the four products to work with and involves fewer risks than the Conductonaut liquid metal thermal paste. However, paste is less recommended for sub-zero overclocking. But that is certainly not a cooling system that beginners use.

Thermal grizzly hydronaut

The Hydronaut paste is suitable for overclocking projects and is particularly intended for computers with large heat sinks. The application is simple and the efficiency of the paste is sufficient for demanding users. The product is free of silicone and is therefore easy to work with.

With the Kryonaut paste, we have arrived at a product that probably offers the best ratio between high heat dissipation and price. The thermal conductivity is very good and the paste is also suitable for low temperature ranges that are found in sub-zero overclocking. But even if you work with water or air cooling, with the Thermo Grizzly Kryonaut you have found an excellent thermal paste that is easy to process and has no electrical conductivity.

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut

The Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut is a so-called liquid metal thermal paste. The advantage of this paste is that it can score with a very high thermal conductivity of 73 W / km, which is a multiple of normal thermal pastes. Even the Kryonaut has "only" 12,5 W / mk, although it is already the high-end paste in the portfolio.

However, the disadvantage of these pastes with metal components of tin, gallium and indium is that you have to work very carefully to apply them. On the one hand, gallium attacks, for example, aluminum heat sinks and, on the other hand, the paste is electrically conductive, which can quickly lead to short circuits if you "spill" some of it on the motherboard.

This thermal paste is not very suitable for sub-zero overclocking, but it is even more suitable for computers with air and water cooling. Nevertheless, you should only use this type of thermal paste as a very experienced hobbyist. The use of GPUs is not recommended, as it is often not clear whether the heatsinks are actually made of copper or whether they just look like copper and are attacked by the gallium.

By the way, the best thermal paste in many tests is the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. As a rule, it is only surpassed by pastes made from liquid metal, which are difficult to apply for aluminum heat sinks and simple users and can only be used at high risk. So if you are looking for a WLP with good thermal conductivity and ease of use, then the Cryonaut well served.
