Apple is using the main material of the new iPhone Pro case, namely titanium, as a selling point for the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. One property that is repeatedly emphasized is the lower weight of the material and therefore the device as a whole. During the presentation, the new smartphones were even described as the lightest Pro models in the history of the iPhone. A comparison with the previous models shows that this only applies to the “Max” model.

iPhone 15 Pro with titanium case: weight comparison with its predecessors
Since the iPhone 11, Apple has also offered a Pro version and a Pro Max version of its smartphone. The weight comparison only needs to be made over a period of five years. And with regard to the smaller Pro model, it is noticeable that the new iPhone 15 Pro is 19 grams lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro, but not the lightest model to date. Because the iPhone 12 Pro from 2020 weighs the same mass.
iPhone model (release) | Weight in grams |
iPhone 15 Pro (2023) | 187 g |
iPhone 14 Pro (2022) | 206 g |
iPhone 13 Pro (2021) | 203 g |
iPhone 12 Pro (2020) | 187 g |
iPhone 11 Pro (2019) | 188 g |
iPhone 15 Pro Max: Titanium housing for a small weight advantage
The iPhone 15 Pro Max also has a weight loss of 14 grams compared to last year's model, the iPhone 19 Pro Max. But if you look again at the first Pro Max models of the Apple smartphone, the difference becomes even smaller. The comparison to the devices from 2019 and 2020 only shows a difference of 5 grams. I doubt whether this or the 19 gram difference from the direct predecessor is a real selling point. At least for me it isn't.
iPhone Pro Max model | Weight in grams |
iPhone 15 Pro Max (2023) | 221 g |
iPhone 14 Pro Max (2022) | 240 g |
iPhone 13 Pro Max (2021) | 238 g |
iPhone 12 Pro Max (2020) | 226 g |
iPhone 11 Pro Max (2019) | 226 g |

Oh wow, that's light! – Introducing the iPhone 15 Pro (Max)
Apple has several YouTube videos ready to promote the new devices, which were introduced on Tuesday last week. One is titled “A Guided Tour of iPhone 15 & iPhone 15 Pro.” The guided tour through the most important data, most interesting features and most notable innovations also works Titan as a new housing material and its lightness - spoken about several times, but also demonstrated by weighing it in the hand and saying “Oh wow, that's light!”. It is certainly questionable whether this would be highlighted in real life with a maximum difference of 19 g compared to its predecessors.
