Delete all tweets from a Twitter account: Here's how!

The short message platform Twitter has been inviting people to exchange ideas on a wide variety of topics since 2006. You write tweets, retweet entries from others and leave comments under the contributions of users. Over time, thousands or tens of thousands of tweets and interactions come together. If you want to dare to restart Twitter without creating a new account, you have to delete all tweets. But how can you quickly and easily remove all tweets from a Twitter account? You can find answers to this question here - along with tips and tricks for a clean process when using third-party apps.

Delete all tweets - If you want to remove all entries from your Twitter account, you will find an app and several web tools for it here.

Preview: Tweet limit, archive, app usage and access management

In the following I will introduce you to an app and several web tools with which you can clean up your Twitter account on Mac and PC or in a compatible web browser. However, there is usually a limit of 3.200 tweets. This can be bypassed with the first app by downloading and uploading the account archive. Details can be found in the corresponding paragraph.

With all solutions you have to grant the respective service access to your Twitter account. This is done by entering your @ -handle or your email address and your password. That sounds critical at first, but it's not a problem thanks to Twitter's security options. Because you can use it to revoke access to your account from the app. You can read how this works at the bottom of this guide.

Erase all tweets with the Twitter Archive Eraser

I found the reference to the Twitter Archive Eraser in the featured magazine from Vodafone (here). You can download the app for free on the Developer website for Apple Mac and Windows PC. After downloading and installing the Twitter Archive Eraser App, you have to log in with the Twitter account that you want to empty. As already described above, this happens with the regular login data.

Then you can a Archive requested by Twitter (in .zip format) or let the app scan the account. In addition to your own tweets, retweets and comments that you have published appear. How many tweets can be deleted or how far back they can be is linked to the license purchased (see table).

Twitter Archive Eraser - Free usage and prices of the full versions

The app can be used free of charge. However, there are restrictions on the scope and type of how you can use it to delete all (or perhaps not all) tweets on a Twitter account. Here I have summarized the various offers for you:

Tips for Using Twitter Archive Eraser

I put the app through a small test on the Apple Mac and can give you the following tips and hints on the way based on this Twitter Archive Eraser experience:

  • Before registering under the "Sign In" button, remove the checkmark in front of "Follow @ArchiveEraser on Twitter" (see picture above)
  • Regardless of the method (load or scan archive) and which license: If you agree to the deletion process, all selected tweets will be irretrievably lost
  • After deleting you will be asked if you want to send a tweet (to promote the app) - you can simply say no

I tested the app with a Twitter account that has been active since 2019. The limits mentioned above applied for free use. That means that I could only delete tweets that were back until March 10.03.2020th, 1.000 at the latest. In addition, only XNUMX of the selected tweets could be deleted in one go. My last tip: don't forget to revoke the app's account access after the process (see below).

Delete all tweets using web tools

I found the reference to various web tools for deleting all tweets on a Twitter account at WikiHow. So the source here is not quite as serious as Vodafone's online magazine. With this link However, on the WikiHow website you will find the instructions for using the following web tools if you want to delete all tweets from a Twitter account in this way:

  • Twitwipe
  • TweetDelete
  • Cardigan
  • Delete all tweets
I found the reference to TwitWipe, TweetDelete, Cardigan and Delete All Tweets on WikiHow.

I found the reference to TwitWipe, TweetDelete, Cardigan and Delete All Tweets on WikiHow.

For all four there is a note that only the last 3.200 tweets of the selected account can be deleted. If you trust one of the tools (ideally study the terms and conditions and the imprint), then it can offer a good free alternative to the app shown above. I myself have not tested TwitWipe or TweetDelete, Cardigan or Delete All Tweets. Therefore I cannot make a recommendation or say which offer is the most serious.

Revoke access to the Twitter account from an app

If you have used one of the listed offers to free your Twitter account from tweets, retweets, favorites, DM messages and / or other content, there is one last step to take. This consists of revoking the selected tool from accessing the account.

To do this, navigate to Twitter Settings -> Your account -> Security and Account Access -> Apps and sessions. Or you can simply click on the following link: twitter.com/settings/apps_and_sessions.

Do you want to revoke access to Twitter from an app? It works very simply here.

Once there, click on "Registered devices and apps". The apps and devices through which your account is used now appear in the overview. For me it would be z. B. "Twitter for iPhone", because I use this app on the Apple smartphone and am logged into it with an account. When using the apps / web apps listed above, these are added. You can disconnect by clicking on "Withdraw access" or "Revoke access".

Good luck with your project;)
