What are .LRV and .THM files?

Icon ask Sir Apfelot

Today I took a look at my micro SD card that I have in the GoPro Hero 3 and noticed that in addition to the .mp4 movie files, files with the file extension .lrv and .thm are still being created. Since I'm naturally curious, I googled what it was all about.

The .LRV files are small preview videos that the GoPro camera creates so that the film can be viewed with the GoPro LCD touch screen for the back, for example. The .THM file is a thumbnail of the first film image. This is shown, for example, in the overview of the media files.

So now we're a little smarter. :)

    1. Hello Rainer! Yes, the .LRV files can be played back with the VLC player (free for Mac and PC), for example. However, I don't know whether Windows Media Player can play the lrv files.
