Creality CR-Scan Raptor – Hand-held 3D scanner with laser and NIR modes (sponsor)

Creality's CR-Scan Raptor is the world's first hybrid 3D scanner designed specifically for the consumer market. It combines the scanning of objects and surfaces using seven blue laser lines for the best precision with NIR (near infrared) including a high-resolution camera. Twelve white LEDs are installed to ensure ideal lighting conditions during camera scans, which also enable the correct registration of colors. The device weighs only 372 grams. The scan data obtained can be used as OBJ, STL and PLY on both the Apple Mac and the Windows PC. Creality will also release accessories that will allow the Raptor scanner to be used with iOS and Android devices.

  • Scanning apps for current Windows and macOS versions are available

Scanning with blue light and laser lines

In the so-called “Blue Light Mode”, an accuracy of 3D surface resolution of 0,02 to 2 mm can be achieved, depending on the size of the object and the distance during scanning. The 60 images per second means that scanning can be carried out relatively quickly, which also makes it possible to image large and complex objects quickly. The minimum scan volume is 5 x 5 x 5 mm. The distance to the workpiece should be 150 to 400 mm. In addition to the seven laser lines that the device projects, the included marker points and documents are useful for more precise alignment. This mode is particularly suitable for small objects.

Scanning with NIR and white light

The NIR mode is intended for a greater distance to the object, from 170 mm to 1.000 mm. The accuracy here is up to 0,1 mm. The 3D resolution ranges between 0,1 and 2 mm depending on the distance. The camera takes 20 images per second in this mode. In addition to a precise scan, this mode focuses on surfaces, textures and colors. That's why the NIR mode is particularly practical for designing digital 3D models for films, games, AR/VR applications and the like. The mode can also be used outdoors, for example to scan objects in nature.

The demand for handy but powerful 3D scanners is growing

Just as the spread and ever-growing use of 3D printers is growing, so is the market for 3D scanners. After all, these two groups of devices go hand in hand. If you don't want to model spare parts, toys, decorations or useful aids yourself from scratch, but rather use an existing object as a model, a 3D scanner can help. The Creality CR-Scan Raptor solves several problems: it is light, easy to use, offers precise results in all areas of application thanks to hybrid scanning and is also robust. The device also helps with scanning objects, people and animals for 3D applications and animations. This simplifies the use of 3D in professional areas.

Conclusion on the new Creality CR-Scan Raptor

The Creality CR-Scan Raptor is a versatile hand-held 3D scanner that can be used in a wide variety of areas thanks to its lightweight design and compact form factor. Scanning car parts and components, transferring people into 3D models, 3D imaging of a wide variety of small and large parts for 3D printing of spare parts - this and much more is possible. Thanks to hybrid scanning technology, object dimensions as well as surfaces, textures and colors can be transferred precisely. A good way to quickly and easily get started in the world of 3D scanning. With the code RAPTOR100 you save 10% in the Creality Store!
